So, why is Choxi+ such great news?

  • Antioxidants are essential for good health. One of the most interesting types of antioxidants are flavanols.
  • Choxi+ has two to three times more antioxidants than ‘ordinary’ chocolate.
  • Choxi+ has nothing added to it – it just retains much more of cocoa beans’ natural goodness because it is made so gently and without too much heat.
  • While you can enjoy two squares of Choxi+ for its great taste and richness in antioxidants, you should still aim to have five daily helpings of fruit and vegetables to benefit from the other nutrients and fibre they contain. It is always best to enjoy Choxi+ as part of a balanced diet.
  • Choxi+ is neither too bitter nor bland – in fact it is just extraordinarily yummy. The care with which it’s made means that it’s not just better for you, it tastes better, too. Taste some and see for yourself...

Cocoa beans are the fruit of the cocoa tree. The beans one of the richest known source of several antioxidants.

FAQ’s

Where can I buy Choxi+?
All four bars are available online from this site and from over 180 of Tesco's largest stores nationwide. The Choxi+ Dark Chocolate bar will be available from over 500 Tesco stores. The range is also available at Selfridges in Oxford Street and Fenwick in Newcastle. We believe chocolate this good for you should be widely and easily available!

What are the potential benefits of boosting my antioxidant levels?
A healthy immune system. Although chocolate is the best known natural source of antioxidants, it should not be seen as a medicine and you certainly should not rely on chocolate to prevent or to cure illness.

How is Choxi+ made?
Choxi+ is made using a lot less heat and a lot more t.l.c. Nothing is added but from the harvesting process onwards, great care is taken to preserve as much of the natural goodness of the cocoa beans as possible. Since anyone who makes chocolate would love to know exactly how it is done, the precise process has to remain a bit of a secret. Sorry.

Can you have too much of a good thing?

Happily, your body can’t really have too many antioxidants so you needn’t worry about how much Choxi+ you eat on that score. Like all chocolate, Choxi+ contains irritating things called calories so you shouldn’t get too carried away – we’d hate you to undo all the good of boosting your antioxidant levels by really overindulging!

Does Choxi+ taste like normal chocolate?

Yes, only better. The gentle way in which Choxi+ is made doesn’t just mean that it’s better for you, it tastes better, too. The dark chocolate has at least 63% cocoa solids and has a wonderful rich flavour without being too bitter. The milk chocolate has 38% cocoa solids and is deliciously creamy. Yum.

Does any other food contain more antioxidants than Choxi+?

Apart from strange things like grape seed extract, we know of no brand of chocolate or, in fact, any normal food at all that is a better source of antioxidants than Choxi+ Dark Chocolate. The amount of flavanol antioxidants that different chocolate contains varies quite a bit and is often a good barometer of its quality – the more the better.

What are the other foods that have high levels of antioxidants?

Red wine and green tea are both excellent sources of antioxidants, while berries, nuts and some other fruits and vegetables are all a good source, too. Cranberry juice is one of the best fruit juices for antioxidants while freshly made coffee is another good source.

How long does it take for the antioxidants in Choxi+ to work?
Research shows that your body will start absorbing the antioxidants in Choxi+ between one and two hours after you enjoy that first magical taste and they will still be beavering away six or seven hours later.

Can Choxi+ in itself prevent cancers and other diseases?
Absolutely not. Choxi+ is not a medicine and Prestat is a chocolate company. Good chocolate eaten in moderation, however, is an excellent part of a balanced diet and we want everyone to know why that is. If you're interested in good chocolate and antioxidants, Choxi+ is the best!

Nothing added – just more natural goodness left in

Apart from the taste, the greatest thing about Choxi+ is that nothing has been added to it. Because it is made in a gentler way than other chocolate, using significantly lower temperatures, it retains a huge amount more of the natural goodness in the cocoa beans. As a result, Choxi+ provides between two and three times more antioxidants than a standard dark or milk chocolate. Two squares – less than 60 calories – a day of dark Choxi+ supplies enough flavanol antioxidants to help neutralise free radicals.

Free radicals – the bad guys

Free radicals and things called oxidants are ‘unstable’ molecules which we all have in our bodies. They react with other molecules and can damage the DNA in our cells which can (if left unchecked) trigger cancer, a build-up of cholesterol – leading to heart disease – or even cause premature ageing. Free radicals are not always bad, they actually play a useful role in fending off infections, but most of us have too many of them in our bodies – particularly if we have an unhealthy diet or if we are under stress.

Antioxidants – the good guys

The term ‘antioxidants’ is used to describe the group of vitamins, minerals and other naturally occurring substances found in plants that help to protect the body against free radicals and oxidants (hence the term ‘antioxidant’). Choxi+ is particularly rich in antioxidants called flavanols.

A new ‘cocoa vitamin’?

Chocoholics will be glad to hear that as part of a balanced diet we can feel content eating more than two squares of Choxi+ a day. In particular, research by Norman Hollenberg, Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, has been examining a flavanol antioxidant called epicatechin. Choxi+ is one of the best sources of this extraordinary substance. There is even a debate about whether, one day, the definition of vitamins may need to be changed so that epicatechin can be credited as the 14th essential vitamin in a healthy balanced diet.

Guilt-free chocolate

A whole 75g bar of Choxi+ Milk Chocolate contains 409 calories while a 70g bar of Dark Chocolate has only 356, so even if you find Choxi+ understandably irresistible, it is still easy to include in a balanced diet. Given that Choxi+ is an excellent source of epicatechin – as well as many other antioxidants – you need never feel guilty about enjoying it.

How Choxi+ compares with other foods a useful source antioxidants.

A widely used scientific method for measuring antioxidants is called the ORAC method (oxygen radical absorbance capacity), which measures a food’s ability to neutralise potentially harmful free radicals.

There is no set recommendation for the amount of antioxidants in our diet but some nutritionists have suggested that we should aim to eat food with a rating of about 4000 ORAC a day. That is the equivalent of 25g of Choxi+ Milk Chocolate or just 10g of Choxi+ Dark Chocolate. But if you prefer, you can always eat a pound (0.45kg) of Brussels sprouts instead...

10g Choxi+ Dark Chocolate 4600 ORAC
10g Standard dark chocolate 1970 ORAC
10g Choxi+ Milk Chocolate 1600 ORAC
10g Standard milk chocolate 620 ORAC
10g Walnuts 1360 ORAC
10g Prunes 575 ORAC
10g Raisins 285 ORAC
10g Blueberries 240 ORAC
10g Spinach (cooked) 125 ORAC
10g Raspberries 120 ORAC
10g Brussels sprouts (cooked) 100 ORAC
10g Broccoli (cooked) 90 ORAC
10g Oranges 75 ORAC
10g Apples 20 ORAC

Choxi+ contains more flavanol antioxidants than any other food and as part of a balanced diet it really is a positive indulgence!
